Manuel Rubio

Born in Mexico City, Mr. Rubio has been considered by international critics as one of the most outstanding guitarists of his generation due to his technique and his expressive musicianship. He studied at the Estudio de Arte Guitarristico with the Argentinian Maestro Manuel Lopez Ramos and his postgraduate at The Boston Conservatory of Music receiving the maximum honors.

Active as a performer as well as a professor -Chairman of Guitar Department at the Escuela Superior de Artes de Yucatan, in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. Mr. Rubio also served on the guitar faculty at the Mexico State Conservatory of Music and Dean of Music Department in La Salle University.

Manuel Rubio is known for his commanding interpretations of the works of contemporary composers as well as for bringing new vitality to masterpieces of the past and for his virtuosistic arrangements of LatinAmerican and Spanish music.

During his stay in the United States, South America and Europe he directed master classes. He has premiered in International festivals different contemporary works.

Mr. Rubio was the Artistic Director of the 2003 Guitar Foundation of America Convention and Competition in Mexico featuring outstanding guitarists as John Williams, Alvaro Pierri, Pavel Steidl, Carlos Bonell among others.

Manuel´s debut recording, “Mexican Music for Guitar”, an eclectic collection of modern works ranging from Ponce to Chavez to Enriquez and his second recording with Ars Flventis Records “De Pura Cepa” with music by Ponce and Piazzolla has been critically acclaimed. He has now 5 recordings. His latest CD´s COMBATTANS includes Latin-American and Baroque music for 2 guitars and has been critically acclaimed by the press.

He is frequently invited to perform solo recitals in Music Festivals in Mexico, South America, Europe and the USA and has made numerous appearances on TV -as People & Arts- and radio programs.
